John MacNaughton

John MacNaughton, born in 1889, joined the Company in 1912 and very soon gained promotion, becoming Company Secretary in 1915.  Universally known as 'Mac', in 1933 he was appointed a Director, in charge of Accounts and Administration.
 
During World War II he was an ARP Block Commander in the Smithfield area and was made a Freeman of the City of London in recognition of his services during the Blitz.
 
He retired in August 1959, when he was presented with a nest of tables, half a dozen cut glass tumblers and a bottle of whiskey on behalf of the London employees, and a Ronson Table Lighter from the Lancashire Depot.  From the Company, he was presented with a cheque by Jim Herbert.
 
He died on 23rd June 1964 at Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood in his 76th year.
