The Great Exhibition

The Great Exhibition took place in London from 1 May to 11 October 1851, and was a celebration of modern industrial technology and design.  By hosting this exhibition "Great Britain made clear to the world its role as industrial leader."

Conceived by Prince Albert, it was held in Hyde Park in London in the specially constructed Crystal Palace, a huge iron structure with more than a million square feet of glass.  Over 13,000 exhibits were displayed and six million people visited.

Thomas Medhurst took a stand, and his entry is shown in the ‘Official Catalogue of the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations, 1851'.
