Eric Fox

Eric Herbert Fox (1935 – 1996)

Eric Fox was born in Butterworth, Manchester in December 1935. He joined the Company in December 1951 as a 16 year old shop boy in the Manchester Depot, shortly afterwards becoming an apprentice scalemaker.

On his return from National Service with the Royal Engineers in 1954-56, he worked as a service engineer in the North East, covering the territory on a motor scooter.  After promotion to Scale Foreman, he moved to be Northern Depot Sales Manager when it was relocated to Regent Street, Salford in 1963.

Shortly after this he married the depot secretary, Mavis, who returned to this role after the birth of their two children.

In 1965 Eric set up a new service depot at Thorp Street, Eccles, which was subsequently extended to include a showroom and sales office.

He was promoted to Northern Area Sales Manager in 1973, Northern Regional Manager in 1977, and then Trade Sales Manager for the North.

After the centralisation of service in Haverhill in December 1988, Eric took early retirement in August 1989, and took on an agency for our retail products.

He was still working as an agent for us when he died on 24th June 1996.
