John Page

John Henry Page

John Page joined us in early 1978 to run Lion Electronics Limited, a joint venture company we had set up in 1977 with Gresham Lion Limited to develop new scale electronics.

John transferred from Gresham to the new company and moved to Suffolk with his wife Linda and son Geoffrey.

The first product to be built was the Lion 2000 weighing machine, which had pioneered the mass market for electronic retail scales in the UK at its launch in 1975. In 1979, we bought out Gresham's share of the joint company and Lion Electronics became a fully-owned subsidiary of Herbert & Sons.

John was responsible for the introduction of our first quality and reliability control procedures and in 1980 for developing the Lion Sovereign weighing machine, a product which at that time was clearly ‘best of breed'. In 1982 John was promoted to Technical Director where he was responsible for production, development and service.

John spearheaded the drive for improved quality in the Company, introduced the Company to the BS 5750 (now ISO 9001) Quality Standard and focused our efforts on the changes needed to achieve this Standard, which we did in 1986.

John also took on the role of Deputy Managing Director in 1993, and was appointed a Governor of Castle Manor School in Haverhill, a position which he loved and in which he excelled.

John left the Company in 1995 and trained for a new career as a podiatrist, practising firstly in Clare and later in Bury St. Edmunds.

John was a good musician, having played drums in a band in his youth. In later life he learned to play the piano.

John died on 24th May 2012 at the age of 68 while on holiday in Malta recovering from a lung infection, but unfortunately his condition deteriorated and he died in hospital in Valetta.
