Oil painting of an unknown lady

This painting was left in the flat above the shop at 319/321 Grays Inn Road when the tenant died in the 1930s.

 

One story is that the painting was accepted in lieu of outstanding rent, in any case it was removed to T J Herbert's house in Hendon where it hung until passed to his son, then to the current Chairman.

 

The subject of the portrait is an unknown lady, and the painting is unsigned.
