George Speakman

George Kenneth Speakman (1923 - 1987)
 
George Speakman was born on 17th February 1923, and joined the Company in 1937 as a boy apprentice, working under Bill Roberts in the Manchester depot.
 
In WWII he served in the Royal Engineers from 1942, and on demob rejoined us in 1947 as a service engineer.
 
George was promoted to manager of the Northern Depot, but unfortunately suffered a brain haemorrhage.  Although he was able to return to work in due course, he never regained full health and took early retirement in December 1973.
 
George died at his home in Manchester on 16th July 1987.
