Harry Smith

Henry Smith

Harry Smith, a former WWII aircraft fitter, joined the Swift Scale Company in 1945 as a fitter.  He subsequently trained as a scalemaker, then became an outside service mechanic.

He joined us as a service engineer in 1960 when we took over Swifts.

Harry retired in 1977 after 31 years service, when the Lion News reported that ‘on behalf of the Company Mr. Jim Herbert presented him with a cheque while Bob Green handed over another cheque on behalf of the Service Engineers.  Harry supplied the traditional bottle of sherry and his health was drunk by all present.’

Harry died on 8th July 1996.
