Major Darby

Major Vaughan Darby (1922 – 2003)

 

Major Darby joined Herbert & Sons when we purchased the Swift Scale Company in 1960.  He had trained with Avery in Birmingham before WWII, and joined Swift in 1948 following service in the Royal Navy, where he was present at the D-Day Landings in Normandy and the South of France on a rocket bombardment craft.

 

Major retired in April 1984 after being our service engineer in the Dorset and Hampshire area during a period of huge expansion of the main supermarket groups.

 

Major Darby died on 6th August 2003.
