George Nurse

George joined the Company in 1928, one of the old school of ‘scalies’ working in Berry Place off the Goswell Road.

He worked in the scale shop both there and at Angel Road, Edmonton until his retirement in 1963.

George saw the transition from the well known Lion Quick Action ‘inverted’ scale to the first range of visible indicating fans and semi-automatic scales introduced by the Company just prior to WWII.

On his retirement in December 1962 the Lion News reported that George ‘will be remembered for his quiet and unruffled approach to life’.  He and his wife Gladys went to live in Folkestone, and George died on 15th March 1979.
