Charlie Poore

Charles John Poore (1899 – 1970)

Charlie Poore was born on 20th August 1899, and served with the Company for some 40 years, joining in 1924.  He was one of the stalwarts of the old polishing and grinding shop handling his share of many miles of stainless steel rail supplied to the Butchers Shops throughout the country.  He retired in October 1964, moving to Hunstanton, and died on the 31st March 1970 in his 71st year.

It is probable that Charlie was the Charles Poore who appears on the 1901 census at 150 St Stephens Road, St Mary Stratford as the one year old son of George Poore, whose son Samuel was also a scalemaker and with whom Steve Marriage Snr was boarding, but we have no proof.
