Bill Card
William George Card (1900 – 1972)
Bill Card was born in Dover on 6th July 1900, and joined the Company in 1922 after having served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Chayney’s at Canterbury.
Bill was an outside service mechanic, and in his later years was responsible for the service of machines in the major London stores.
Bill retired due to ill health on 1st September 1965 after 43 years service.
The Lion News reported that Bill Card died on 21st January 1972, adding ‘Shortly after he attended the Garden Party at Yew Tree Farm in July last year he was admitted to hospital and was only discharged just before Christmas. The treatment seemed to have given him a new lease of life until the day he was returning home from his club when he collapsed in the street and died before being admitted to hospital’.
