Sid Crowley

Sidney Crowley (1908 – 1974)

Sid Crowley was born in Shoreditch on 27th June 1908, and joined the Company in August 1929 as a Fitter & Turner.

He left in January 1940, but returned in March 1947 as a Machine Shop Operator.

Sid prevented a serious fire at the factory in Edmonton in June 1960.  Spotting smoke coming from the loading bay on a Saturday afternoon, he raised the alarm.  George Warwick, who with others was engaged in reconstruction work on the stores rushed to the fire and extinguished it before the Fire Brigade arrived.

He left the business due to ill health in May 1968 and moved to Norfolk, where he died in 1974.
