Steve Lomas
Stephen John Lomas (1945 – 2014)
Steve Lomas was born in Halifax on 5th November 1945. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery in 1963, but had to be invalided out of the Army in 1967 after an accident. He had though already met his future wife Beryl, who was in the WRAC, and they married later that year.
Steve worked for AEI and Pye before joining Herberts in 1984 as an assembly technician, working on the industrial weighing and labelling machines such as the 1440 indexer and Gemini.
Steve left the Industrial company in 2001 and joined the Prison Service, working in Highpoint prison, and took his retirement from us in 2010.
Steve was proud of his military experiences, and attended many Regimental reunions at Lark Hill near Salisbury. He was also a keen supporter of Haverhill Rugby Club, and before his health deteriorated was often to be found in the clubhouse. He attended the Company pensioners lunches, and is pictured on the right with Beryl in June 2013.
Steve died on 22 January 2014.
