Doreen Granger

Ellen Doreen Granger (1927 - 2016)

Doreen Granger, née Brazier, was born on 8th January 1927 in Willesden, North London.

She married Alan Harry Granger in Willesden on 16th September 1945, just after the end of WWII, and they had three children.

Doreen was working for Addis Ltd in Haverhill, but joined us in September 1973 as a scale assembler on a recommendation from her daughter Ann, then employed in our offices . Doreen was forced by ill health to leave us in February 1978, but was however able to return to work later that same year in October.

Doreen was active in the Works Liaison Committee and the Social Club, and very popular with her colleagues.  She retired at Christmas 1986, when she was presented with an array of gifts - a silver rose bowl, a meat carving tray, a gold chain bracelet, a teapot, sugar bowl & milk jug, and last but not least a cigarette lighter.

Alan died in 2004, and Doreen moved to Norfolk to live with her daughter Katrina and son-in-law.  She was a regular attendee of our pensioner lunches, but had to cancel in June 2016 at the last minute through ill health, and died in hospital in Norwich on 2nd July 2016 at the age of 89.
