Coin Scale c1790 by Richard Wood

Scale with steel beam with box terminals in a fruitwood case cut from a solid block, 7in x 3in.
 
These were made by Richard Wood (late Goulding) around 1790 when at the Angel & Scales, No 15 in Queen Street.
 
The box contains the following weights:
 
Three plug weights in the cut holes, for a guinea (5D 8G), half guinea (2D 16G) and third guinea (7S).
 
In the brass lidded compartment are three weights, all marked on one side ‘TG'.  These were purchased from the same auction as the scale, and may be by Thomas Goulding:
 
Portuguese Joe(S 36), Half Joe (S 18) and Quarter Joe (S 9).
