Potato Chip Machine
The hand-operated machine was sold to fish and chip shops. They required a lot of manual labour. These days these shops usually buy in frozen ready-cut chips and employ far fewer people. People must have been quite strong to operate this machine all day. The cost of the machine was £2, that is almost two-week’s wages for the average worker. Today that would be the equivalent of £600 or more.
