London Association Dinner 1898

George Herbert was appointed chairman of the Association of London Scale and Weighing Machine Manufacturers in 1898.  At the 8th Annual Dinner, the London Press reported that ‘the gathering was the largest since formation of the association in 1890, over 60 sitting down.  Amongst those present were representatives from Bristol, Birmingham, and other towns, together with some of the principal inspectors of weights and measures in the Kingdom.  Major Titford (of the firm Vandome, Titfords, and Pawson), 56, Leadenhall Street, proposed for the Navy, Army, and Reserve Forces’.  The Chairman replied, drawing ‘attention to the useful work the association had done and the information it had disseminated amongst the members of the trade.  Those still outside its ranks he urged to join’.
