1978 - Doveden Hall

The Lion News of August 1978 reported the following:

Barn Dance

To celebrate the Company's 10th Anniversary of the move from Edmonton to Haverhill, and as a special "thank you" to all employees for the excellent performance over the last 12 months, a Party was held at Doveden Hall on Saturday 1st July.

A total of 170 Employees and Guests descended on Doveden Hall at 7 p.m. and sat down to a Turkey and Ham Supper in the Barn followed by dancing to the Audio Optics Disco until midnight with the facility of an open bar which must have been the busiest in Suffolk that night!.

After supper, the Chairman Mr. A.J. Herbert, gave a speech of welcome to the Guests numbering 100 and the response for the guests was made by Mr. Fred Stringer, Managing Director of Stringer Scale Ltd.

On behalf of the Employees, Mr. Wheeler thanked those who had been responsible for making the evening possible and particularly Mrs. P.M. Herbert who had been involved in the major task of preparing the food for the evening.  As a mark of appreciation from the Employees a presentation of silver goblets was made by Mrs. Jean Foster to Mrs. P.M. Herbert.

The evening was a complete success and many expressions of thanks and appreciation were received from our guests.

It was felt that the success of the party, following the successful Jubilee Party at Doveden in the previous year should make this an annual event which prompted the spontaneous reply from Mrs. P.M. Herbert of "God forbid"!! - we can well understand that response when we consider the hard work that goes into such an event - we must wait and see!
