Safe Lock and Key

The Lion News of September 1965 reported a break-in to the Angel Road factory on the night of 25th August.  The Wages Office safe was dragged down to the Welding Shop and cut open with the Company’s oxy-acetylene cutter.  However the wrong cutting nozzle was used, so it took the thieves over two hours to open the safe, which in any case held no money.  But the wages records were damaged, and the Wages Office were commended for ensuring that the records were reinstated so that everyone could be paid on time.
