Thomas Herbert had purchased the scalemaking business of George Birch, 37 Chichester Place, Kings Cross in 1857.

 

The advertisement reads:

 

‘Thomas Herbert, Scale Weight, Weighing Machine and Gas Fitting Manufacturer, 37 Chichester Place, Gray's Inn Road, King's Cross and 47 St. George Street East.  Every description of Weighing Machines on the most improved principle, always in stock at the lowest possible prices.  Scales and Weights adjusted by the year in all parts of London.'
