1984 - Meatex

The Company exhibited at Meatex, which is the meat industry's shop window, at the end of March at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

Lion News reported:

Over 13,000 visitors flocked to the Show over 4 days.  The Herbert stand, in prime position immediately opposite the entrance, often seemed to have a large proportion of that number on it!

In fact, not only the whole show broke records, there were quite a number of 'firsts' for us too.  It was by far the largest stand we have ever taken and probably the most ambitious in design and construction.  We showed much of our new range of equipment for the first time and used the event to formally launch the LVTS (Lion Variable Transaction Systems) and FIPS (Food Industrial Production Systems), the unique Herbert & Sons data systems for retailers and food processors.

The tremendous efforts of a large number of people throughout the Company were well rewarded by the amount of interest we created in both new and existing customers.  The salesforce were kept so busy demonstrating and talking to prospective customers that several complained of sore throats and one in particular ended the Tuesday able to talk only in a hoarse whisper.

Despite the odd last minute problems that are inevitable in mounting such a large stand with so much new equipment, everything went without any major hitch.
