John Wood dies; Thomas Goulding takes over

John Wood died after a long illness on 30th March 1765.  The death notice said he was ‘a scalemaker of considerable business'.  This adds weight to the likelihood that he actually begun in the trade on his own account around 1740, which fits in with his first appearance on the Land Tax register in 1742 and the date which appears on a catalogue of c1866.

After John Wood's death, his business was handed on to a former apprentice, Thomas Goulding.
